We often think of waffles as a wonderful weekend treat, but if you make these waffle recipes ahead of time, you’ll even get to enjoy them on weekdays. These 3 homemade waffle recipes freeze well. Be sure to give them a try.

My family has a favorite pancake recipe that is made ahead and stored as a dry mix. When we want to have a special weekend breakfast or eat breakfast for dinner, this is the recipe we reach for. It also doubles as pancake mix.
To use this recipe for pancakes, just reduce the eggs by one and add 1/4 cup of water.
Make-Ahead Waffle Recipe
Mix the dry ingredients ahead of time and add the wet ingredients when you are ready to cook. It makes waffles easy – even on weekdays.
Dry Ingredients
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup quick oats (use rolled oats and pulse in a blender until they are coarsely chopped but not powdery.)
- 3/4 cup flax seed (No flax seed? use an equal amount of quick oats instead.)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup dry milk (substitute with 1 cup milk, reduce water (below) by 1 cup)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
- 4 medium eggs
- 1 3/4 cups water (reduce water by 1 cup if you used fresh milk)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Measure all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl, mix together

Whisk together wet ingredients in another bowl

Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients, mixing together until combined

Ladle 1/4 to 1/2 cup of batter on to your prepared waffle iron

Cook until the waffle releases from the iron (time depends on your iron)
