Make-Ahead Waffle Recipe

Mix the dry ingredients ahead of time and add the wet ingredients when you are ready to cook. It makes waffles easy - even on weekdays.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup quick oats use rolled oats and pulse in a blender until they are coarsely chopped but not powdery.
  • 3/4 cup flax seed No flax seed? use an equal amount of quick oats instead.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup dry milk substitute with 1 cup milk, reduce water (below) by 1 cup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 4 medium eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups water reduce water by 1 cup if you used fresh milk
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Measure all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl, mix together

  2. Whisk together wet ingredients in another bowl

  3. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients, mixing together until combined

  4. Ladle 1/4 to 1/2 cup of batter on to your prepared waffle iron

  5. Cook until the waffle releases from the iron (time depends on your iron)
